Stairs

We have been totally consumed with finish details and the blog has relegated. So here's some updates. The stairs were completed in April. Extremely time consumingas each staircase has two winders (more thrills from an Octagon House!) and each is different. The basic structure is 42mm treads and risers of spruce with 19 mm larch covering on the treads for better wear resistance as it is significantly harder.

A retaining wall

Originally we thought we might need a lot of retaining structure to hold back the hill but as we regraded it became apparent that we could return the hill to its original grade without any retaining walls. On the back of the house where the heat pump sits we have been able to use a few large rocks remaining from the excavation. So that just leaves the area by the second bedroom. Here want a small patio, enough for a table and two chairs, so some kind of wall is needed. Here are the footings: And the forms:
