The garage is a weak link in the efficiency of the design as it is within the envelope of the building but is not heated.
We have mitigated this with really well insulated walls and ceiling, but the garage doors need to be as good a seal as possible and super insulated.
Because of the angle of the walls there is no room for an overhead door so we have elected for carriage doors.
These are comprised of 2 1/2 inches of spray foam and 2 1/2 inches of wood fiber insulation sandwiched between 3/4" CLT and plywood. On the exterior will be steel siding to match the building
Total weight for each door is around 400lbs so we will have three pairs of seriously big hinges (Bad Ass Hinges) to suspend them and openers from FAAC (you guessed it - Made in Italy!)
Rebated seals of Trim-Lok D- profile EPDM foam seal will attempt to seal the edges when closed.
Whether that works or not will depend on the tolerences we are able to assure at the closures
